How to get rid of house flies

  • Rinse your fruit.

When you bring fruits from the grocery store, they may have all sorts of germs and bacteria stuck on them. Even if you were told it is clean, you should still rinse it properly as soon as you return home from your grocery shopping. Rinse the fruits in water or vinegar before storing or consuming them.

For the vinegar wash, you may use two parts water and one part vinegar. This wash will also prevent the fruit from rotting and clean bacteria from its surface.

  • Find the source.

You can rinse your fruits all you want, but you won’t be able to get rid of these flies without determining all the sources that attract them. After all, fruits are not the only thing that invites in flies. House flies are usually seen hanging out and about open food items, such as food cans, dishes in the sink, etc.

If you see flies hovering around your kitchen, throw out the food and clean the area. You may also use a cleaner to disinfect the area. In most cases, simply throwing out the food is enough.

  • Create a jar trap.

There are several ways to create DIY traps to collect house flies, and a jar trap is one of them. The method simply involves filling a jar with something that attracts house flies, such as old wine, stale beer, overripe fruits, apple cider vinegar, etc.

To make the trap, take a jar and cover it with plastic wrap. Make small holes in the wrap so the flies can get in but cannot get out. You may place multiple jars like this around your house, depending on how big the problem is.
